SAT/ACT Information

While the high school grade point average is the best indicator of college success, the colleges continue to utilize the SAT and ACT as an additional means to predict college readiness. In addition to admission decisions, colleges will use the SAT and ACT for placement into certain courses as well as for scholarships. Florida Bright Futures also requires SAT and ACT scores along with GPA and community service.

To prepare students for the SAT and ACT, Calvary administers the following assessments:

  • Freshman: PSAT 8/9
  • Sophomores & Juniors: PSAT/NMSQT & Pre-ACT

CCHS College Counseling recommends all juniors take both the SAT and ACT no later than early spring of the junior year and consider retaking the test they did better on using the remaining spring and late summer/early fall test date options in the senior year given college deadlines (as early as October 15/November 1).

PSATs - Wednesday Oct. 11, 2017

The PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test and Scholastic Assessment Test) will be administered to all CCHS students in grades 9-11 on Wednesday, October 11, 2017. This test coincides with the NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test). By taking this test, students not only get to practice for SAT, but 11th grade students also have an opportunity to be entered into the National Merit Scholarship competition.

The newly redesigned PSAT is formatted like the SAT, and serves as an excellent introduction to SAT since questions are similar, containing the Evidence-Based Reading & Writing, and Math sections, but with fewer questions and shorter test time. For more information about the updated testing design please visit Collegeboard.org.

PSAT Results will be available the week of December 11th.

The test will begin at approximately 7:45 a.m. and students cannot be admitted after this time.
