Class of 2009

Ryan Cardew
Ryan had the opportunity to participate in a six-week internship through the Arizona Heart Foundation in Phoenix along with 7 other students from across the country. Ryan says, "It was a truly remarkable experience to shadow the physicians at the hospital as we observed and even scrubbed in for various open heart and endovascular surgeries, many utilizing cutting edge techniques. We also participated in physical examinations, taking blood pressures and interpreting heart sounds, and worked together on a patient case presentation given before the physicians and staff. It was great to be exposed to and learn about so many areas of cardiovascular medicine, and I am extremely grateful for the time I was able to spend at Arizona Heart. As a result of this experience I feel even more confident that God has called me to the medical field, and am excited to see where He leads me."

Ashley Varndell
It was my distinct pleasure to graduate from Calvary Christian High School in 2006. Upon graduation I went on to attend Liberty University where I studied Politics and Public Policy and Western Legal Studies; finishing my degree in 2009. I now find myself in the exciting position of Program Coordinator for the B. Kenneth Simon Center for American Studies at The Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C. Heritage is known as “The Beast” of think tanks and looks to influence public policy through our conservative principles. My department runs the initiative “First Principles,” which shapes the debate and influences the discussion of the Founding Era and Constitutionalism. Specifically, I run the logistical coordination of all our programs both here in D.C. and across the nation. My job has allowed me to work closely with such figures as Former Attorney General Ed Meese, Becky Norton Dunlop, and Supreme Court Justice Alito. I know you all probably hear this plenty but it is amazing what God will do with your life when you give him the opportunity to do so. December 2010
